Experience Florida Music Therapy From Your Home! What to Know About In-Home Music Therapy

Florida Music Therapy is excited to announce that we are expanding our in-home services to Sebastian and Indian River County (along with our current in-home offerings in Brevard, Osceola, Orange, Lee, and Collier counties!) What does an in-home session with Florida Music Therapy look like? We know that welcoming a new person into your home is a big step, and we want to make it easy by letting you know what to expect!

First Things First

We come prepared! We will have all of the musical instruments and materials that are needed for our session. This could include:

● Guitar

● Portable keyboard

● Ukulele

● Speaker

● Drums

● Shakers or other small percussion instruments

● Picture charts and other visuals

● Other fun things to make music with!

After an appropriate space in the home is agreed upon, the in-home session will begin!

Preparing for Music Therapy In-Home Sessions: What to Expect

After we’ve found the perfect space for our session, we’re ready to dive in and begin! We’re excited to welcome your child to our music therapy sessions, where creativity, self-expression, and fun are at the heart of everything we do! It’s important to know that music therapy can be a lively, energetic, and sometimes loud experience. In order to fully engage with the music, our participants are encouraged to be as expressive as possible, which can include making noise, playing instruments energetically, and having fun with sound in ways that might be different from other settings.

While we prioritize creating a safe, supportive environment for everyone, the volume level in the room may rise during certain activities. This energy is part of the therapeutic process, allowing participants to connect with the music, express emotions, and build skills in a joyful, active way!

At first glance, our sessions can look like a fun time making music, singing, and dancing. Music therapists use music to reach your child’s individualized goals. If you are interested in learning about evidence based music therapy, please check out our frequently asked questions
