Individual or Group Music Therapy: Which Would Work Best for Me?

Groups or 1:1 sessions, which one is better for my child?

Starting Music Therapy can be intimidating if you don’t know where to look, so we’re here to help! Florida Music Therapy currently offers weekly individual, group, virtual, in-home, and in-community sessions. Most of our individual and group sessions are held in-studio, in our Lee County or Brevard County locations, so let’s talk about the difference!

Individual (1:1) Music Therapy Sessions

We currently offer individual (1:1) sessions for clients in the Brevard, Lee, Collier, Orange, Osceola, and Indian River Counties. Sessions are typically 45-50 minutes for treatment and 10 minutes for documentation and consultation. The music therapist creates measurable goals and objectives for the client and designs music therapy strategies to meet them. 1:1 sessions look different for everyone because they are personalized for your specific needs. For example, we may use the piano to work on fine motor skills, or incorporate songwriting to work on self-advocacy and self-confidence! The possibilities are endless! If you are looking for music therapy targeting specific goals, or need flexibility when scheduling, an individual session may be best for you!

Group Sessions

Are you interested in starting music therapy to increase and improve socialization or communication? Group sessions may be perfect for you! We currently have over 10 weekly group sessions with ages ranging from 0-18 months to 15+ years. Sessions are 30, 45, or 50 minutes, depending on the groups' age and availability! With an average of 5-10 individuals per group, your child will experience music therapy activities alongside new friends.
